What is Airsoft?
If you think about Paintball then you are not far off.
The main differences are that the games are often given a military or topical theme with multiple objectives only achieveable through team work and stealth.
The guns are very different too, being replica's of real guns but obviously made from lighter and weeker materials. There is absolutely no way they can be converetd to fire live ammunition.
What they do fire is a small 6mm plastic BB. Here's the scientific bit...
The guns propel the BB's with air or compressed gas but are carefully calibrated to deliver a shot not exceeding 1 Joule of energy.
This is enough to let you know you are hit and stings for a couple of seconds but no lasting pain, damage or injury.
Becasue you don't get covered in paint, it is largely a game of trust so when you are hit you simply shout out that you are hit and hopefully they will stop shooting at you if you shout loud enough.
In other words, it's totaly safe as long as you wear eye protection which is mandatory.
The games can be intense and physically demanding but that all adds to the excitement when you get stuck into a serious fire fight. Having said that, you could always play the sniper lying in wait for your target which involves little or no running about.
The game play is only limited by how you want to play it.
Did I mention the guns are fully automatic and capable of firing many shots a second.
It's also very cheap. The BB's fired by the guns cost less than £10.00 and that's for several thousand shots.
It all adds up to a lot of fun.
See you there...
